Character
Name: Zagreus
Series: Hades
Timeline: A couple of escape attempts after the True Ending
Canon Resource Links: https://hades.gamepedia.com/Zagreus
Personality: When the you (the player) first meet Zagreus, he almost fools you into thinking that he's your standard snarky, sarcastic, rebellious type of protagonist that's been flooding the video game meta as of late. However, as you get to know him, you quickly come to realize that that was a mistaken first impression. He definitely CAN be all of those things, but it is not the core of his character, and it is a very refreshing realization.
Zagreus is a kind-hearted fellow. He has an easy manner and is relentlessly optimistic, both traits that serve him well in his endless pursuit of escape-- no amount of failure ever effects his almost single-minded determination. So, despite his constant cycle of death, he never seems to get truly upset with himself or anyone else (aside from his father, occasionally), and his good attitude endears him most of the game's secondary cast. He can and will become friends with basically anyone that gives him the chance, even those that continually get in the way of his escape attempts. A good example of this is his relationship with the Fury Megaera. Zagreus has to fight her basically every time he tries to break out, and while there is definite strain between them, Zag never once blames her for any part of his failures, and still tries to be kind to her regardless of her hostile responses.
Another one of his defining traits is his tendency to meddle in their affairs of everyone he cares about. There is a plot line for nearly every character that lives in his father's court where Zagreus helps them with various issues. He reunites Achilles and Orpheus with their respective lovers, helps the maid Dusa with her job of renovating the lounge, puts his adoptive mother Nyx back in contact with her creator, Chaos, and even plays a large part in mending his mother and father's relationship... If there is something that is within Zagreus' power to help, he will inevitably do it. Still, he is very respectful of people's wishes, and rarely crosses lines that he really shouldn't. He is also highly deferential to those he respects, including all of his extended family on Olympus, and pays them their due in kind.
In a place like Victory Road, Zag will have a lot of newfound freedom he honestly isn't used to. While after the True Ending, Zagreus does more or less receive permission to do as he pleases, he's still bound to the Underworld. He can't exist in the world of the living for more than a few minutes in canon, so suddenly being mortal and out in the daylight, with the ability to take any route in any direction he wants is going to take a long time for him to used to, along with all the inconveniences of being mortal. I think the thing he will find most interesting about being aboveground is the lives and ways of humans, since he's such a sociable guy.
Other smaller things of note: Even though he's so easygoing, Zagreus still speaks with a formal flair and tends to be a bit overly verbose. He has a quick wit for jokes, and likes to play harmless pranks. He can get a little snarky, either when he's annoyed or when he feel really comfortable around someone. And he loves his best boy Cerberus and gives him the good pets.

[The feed starts with the image of a handsome fellow with an amiable expression and a strange case of red-green heterochromia humming in thought as he picks around the buttons and plays with the options. He's not totally inept with the Gear, but he's obviously still learning. He doesn't seem the tiniest bit upset about it though. After awhile, he begins to talk in an offhanded manner, almost as if he's just making comments to himself.]
I have some experience with magic mirrors, and while the one I have at home is very useful, I have to say, I prefer this model. Being able to contact someone from any distance, and exchange words both ways? Bloody brilliant.
Mortals really have come up with some incredible adaptations to their environment since Prometheus first smuggled fire into their world. And now I understand why they've put in so much effort: What an endless string of inconveniences being mortal is! The constant eating and drinking, wasting so many hours a day sleeping, having to have clothes for so many different occasions and types of weather, how much care you have to take to not get injured or sick, other processes I find completely unspeakable... They really need all of these inventions, or else they'd not have the time to do anything except perpetuate their own existence!
But I'll try not to complain too much. It's still been an adventure. I get to enjoy something new every day, which is far more than I can say for home. And the local fauna is fascinating. Speaking of-- Here, pup!
[A Houndour bulls its way under Zag's arm and into view of the camera, and he gives it an affectionate hug.]
Look at this thing! I love the bone accessories. A creature after my own tastes. A bit small, and only one head, but it would be unfair to ask every dog to live up to Cerberus' standards. We're getting along famously. Still not sure of a name, but we'll get there.
One final note: Aside from the day-to-day struggles of preventing oneself from expiring, what does one do around here? Is there some kind of cultural expectation when it comes to finding a vocation? I do know I need to get some kind of job, but I'm foggy on the particulars. Oh, and my thanks in advance for any advice.
